DESCRIPTION

Job Summary:

As part of a formal apprenticeship or regional training program, assists Product Design Technicians to learn and develop the skills necessary to obtain a regionally applicable, Certification as an Experienced Technician (e.g. US Department of Labor). Independently performs work to help support area needs during work rotations in other applicable teams.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Enhancing Model and Drawing Quality : By developing your capability to ensure high-quality models and drawings, you'll contribute to the accuracy and reliability of the products.

  2. Creating and Maintaining Product Specifications : Utilizing Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T), you'll ensure that product specifications are precise and meet industry standards.

  3. Managing CAD Data : Using CAD data management tools, you'll maintain configuration control and ensure the security of design data, which is crucial for project integrity.

  4. Applying Standards : Acquiring knowledge of company, industry, national, and international standards will help you ensure compliance and improve the overall quality of the engineering processes.

  5. Processing Engineering Work Requests : By efficiently handling internal engineering work requests, you'll streamline operations and support the timely completion of projects.

  6. Collaborating with Functional Areas : Engaging with various functional areas as needed will foster teamwork and ensure that all aspects of the project are aligned and integrated.

  7. Continuous Learning : Attending classes and training programs will enable you to build your skills and knowledge, ensuring you stay up-to-date with the latest advancements and best practices.

  8. Driving Innovation : Your proactive approach to learning and applying new techniques will drive innovation within the team, leading to improved processes and products.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Competencies:

  1. Mechanical Design of Mechanical Systems : Gain a deep understanding of mechanical systems to create innovative and robust design concepts. Consider customer requirements across all lifecycle stages to ensure the system performs well in various operating environments.

  2. Mechanical Design Specification : Learn to create comprehensive specifications, including solid models, engineering bill of materials, and detailed drawings. Ensure these specifications meet national, international, industry, and Cummins' standards for clear communication and accurate manufacturing.

  3. Product Configuration and Change Management : Establish and maintain the integrity of product artifact baselines. Efficiently manage changes from concept to obsolescence, ensuring all modifications are tracked, controlled, and communicated effectively.

  4. Decision Quality : Develop the ability to make good and timely decisions that keep projects and the organization moving forward. This involves assessing situations quickly and choosing the best course of action.

  5. Driving Results : Consistently achieve results, even under challenging circumstances. Focus on meeting goals and delivering high-quality work to contribute to the team's success.

  6. Instilling Trust : Build confidence and trust with colleagues and stakeholders through honesty, integrity, and authenticity. This will foster a positive and collaborative work environment.

Education, Licenses, Certifications: High school diploma, certificate of completion of secondary education or equivalent experience in an appropriate STEM field is required. Must meet the minimum educational requirements to be ready to start a formal apprenticeship or training program. Registration in a regionally certified apprenticeship learning or training program required. This position may require licensing for compliance with export controls or sanctions regulations. Requires some work experience and intermediate level knowledge obtained through training or on-the-job experience.

Applicants must be program ready at the time of application submission to be considered. Program readiness can be proven by:

  1. Providing a college transcript proving a passing grade in a pre-requisite math course, making the applicant ready to enroll in Ivy Tech MATH 136.

  2. Completing the Knowledge Assessment (STEM path) through Ivy Tech and providing a screenshot of a passing score of 70 or more.

To complete the Knowledge Assessment:

  1. Apply to Ivy Tech at ivytech.edu as courses only, if asked.

  2. Receive acceptance and instructions to set up your account via email.

  3. Setup your MyIvy account and click the link labeled "Knowledge Assessment."

  4. Select STEM Math. If this option is not on your screen, click "enter a key to join private goals" and enter "STEM." If prompted for a key at any point once you have access to this assessment, enter "STEM."

  5. Complete the initial assessment. If you do not earn a score of 70 or more, complete the remediation with the EdReady system. By completing the remediation, you will reach the target score.

  6. Submit a screenshot of your final score to prove program readiness.

Experience:

Minimal or no work experience required.
